We want to partner with developers who share our ideals in helping to create more suitable and affordable homes for families in and around New York City. As problem solvers with vision and foresight, we work with clients to find long-term legal solutions in the development of affordable housing.
Our affordable housing development attorney works with developers in seeking to acquire land for an affordable housing development. Homes that have been abandoned, foreclosed or demolished can be transformed into affordable housing developments, and we work out the legal details with developers and not-for-profits such as the Housing Partnership Development Corporation (HPDC), which can hold the real estate title while land acquisition, financing and other steps are taken, including a construction loan, and later, a permanent loan, escrow account or blanket mortgage. After development, the title will generally pass for no or at low cost from the not-for-profit to the new owner.
A large part of our motivation to write and distribute a quarterly newsletter to past and present clients is to maintain a sense of community among people who care, as we do, about affordable housing development.
